The taranta and trance dances of the Mediterranean. From the South Cultural Routes trip

We are in Corsano, in Salento where today the Taranta has become a cultural phenomenon. But what are the real origins of the taranta? What is its deepest meaning, often linked to a state of trance that hid great discomfort from those who practiced it? And above all: what are the connections of this dance with other trance dances in the #Mediterranean? Answered by Maristella Martella, dancer and choreographer, who during her career has traveled extensively in the East and in the Mediterranean countries of Africa to delve into the most important and ancestral aspects of this dance which finds its roots in the very origins of the Mediterranean peoples. “South! Vostok100k along the South Cultural Routes” was a journey traveled aboard the Vostok100k, the old 1982 camper of Lorenzo Scaraggi, journalist, reporter. Lorenzo Scaraggi crossed Puglia, Molise, Campania, Basilicata and Calabria in search of anthropological, ethnographic, historical stories, traditions and all those intangible cultural assets of which the south is rich.
