Monte Sant’Angelo. The departure for the story of Gargano. From the podcast “Gargano Capitale. I racconti di un Monte in cammino”.

PODCAST

“Gargano Capitale” starts in Monte Sant’Angelo, the Apulian capital of culture for 2024, exploring the deep connection between the sacred and the profane. Federico Scalabrino and Biagio De Nittis from the group Rione Junno welcome us with folk music. Giovanna Rinaldi tells us about the bread-making tradition in Monte Sant’Angelo and the creation of a Saint Michael icon made from bread dough. Pasquale Piemontese, a local artisan, speaks about his passion for the plumes that pilgrims once carried during their journey to Monte. Giuseppe Palumbo, a tour guide, takes us to the Cave of Saint Michael, a site of medieval pilgrimage. Rosa Palomba, the Cultural Councillor, explains the artistic and cultural residencies of Monte Sant’Angelo, and from Luciano Castelluccia and Ennio Lezzi, we hear firsthand about the artistic residency dedicated to stone sculpture and the Sammicaleri, organized by Green Cave. Michele Simone, a young tourism operator, introduces us to the cultural activities and community life of Monte Sant’Angelo. Finally, Michele Picaro shares the story of Arthur Miller’s visit to the village streets.

A journey through traditions, faith, and culture, discovering a mountain that is the spiritual and cultural heart of Gargano.
